This article is an analysis of the Italian independent movie Quartetto (Salvatore Piscicelli, 2001). The film has been produced following the rules of Dogma 95, and I have tried to analyse the way in which its technical, stylistic and narrative features have to some extent influenced its (in)capability of articulating a fictional universe (according to the categories developed by Roger Odin in his essay De la fiction). This article is preceded by an interview with the director, taking into account the problems of (independent) production and distribution in Italian cinema.
